Whole School Engagement

Creating a school community of acceptance and respect through engaging whole-school initiatives.

Bring The Whole School Together!

Engage in this aspect by bringing together athletes, students, educators, families, volunteers, and community members to celebrate inclusion and create meaningful connections. Whole Community Engagement opportunities can include inclusion awareness campaigns, cheering on Special Olympics Alberta athletes and Unified Sports teams, ability-awareness presentations, school assemblies, rallies, volunteer initiatives, and community events. The best part? Everyone has the opportunity to get involved, learn from one another, and help build a more inclusive community.

Whole Community Engagement activities bring people of all abilities together to learn, participate, and grow side by side. By fostering understanding, respect, and acceptance, these experiences help create welcoming environments where everyone feels valued, included, and empowered to succeed.

Examples of

Inclusive Whole School Initiatives:

  • become a "Cool School" and participate in a Polar Plunge, where funds go to support your school's program

  • have Unified teams and clubs participate in your school's Pep Rally

  • host an Inclusion Week, where throughout the week you bring awareness to inclusion and acceptance

  • connect with Special Olympics Alberta and donate your school to SOA's community programs

  • include Unified projects into curriculum: Unified PE, Construction/Fabs (build corn hole boards or bocce ramps), etc...
