Unified 3x3 Basketball

What is Unified 3x3 Basketball?

How does Unified 3x3 Basketball work?

A Unified 3x3 Basketball team consists of the following:

A Unified athletes - athletes with an intellectual disability; typically, someone who is interested in sport participation, is competitive, and enjoys playing on a team.

A Unified partners - athletes without an intellectual disability; typically, someone who is interested in sport participation, is competitive, and enjoys playing on a team.

When playing there should be 2 athletes and 1 partner on at all times. It is recommended to have 2 lines per team. The goal of the sport is to score points by getting the basketball in the hoop. Games are played to 21 points, but typically in Unified tournaments are played under the designated time limit (anywhere from 10-20 minutes).

What are some important rules I need to keep in mind?

Unified 3x3 Basketball is played half-court which will be bounded by the sidelines and baseline of the basketball court.

The athlete-partner ratio will be 2:1 as it is the partner's responsibility to keep the athletes in on the action. Unified partners are there to compete alongside SO Athletes. Unified Partners are intended to score points, impact the game in a meaningful way and compete in this category. This includes passing, shoot/score and defence. Note: Unified Partners are not permitted to take over games but are expected to contribute.

Scoring with be counted as followed: any shot inside of the arc will be counted as 1 point. Shots behind the arc will be scored as 2.

All team members must be wearing the same jersey or clothing colour to help identify who is on their team.

In the case of a tie, both teams will play until one team scores to 2 points first. Final scores should not go over 23 total points for one team.

Games will start by flipping a coin, the team who correctly guesses the outcome will have the option to start with the ball (offence) or give the ball to the other team (defence).
