The 2027 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games will be hosted across four Alberta communities: St. Albert, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. Each location will showcase different winter sports, highlighting the unique venues and community spirit of its host city while celebrating the talent and determination of our athletes.

St. Albert - January 30-31, 2027

5-Pin Bowling

St. Albert is proud to host the 5-Pin Bowling competition at the 2027 SOA Winter Games — our most popular sport. Athletes from across the province will hit the lanes to compete, connect, and showcase their skills in this exciting and fast-paced event.

Alpine Skiing

The alpine skiing portion of the Winter Games will take place in Calgary. Athletes from across the province will hit the slopes to compete in this fast-paced and exhilarating sport, showcasing their skill, determination, and sportsmanship.

Cross Country Skiing

Calgary will welcome athletes for the cross country skiing competition at the 2027 SOA Winter Games. Competitors from across the province will take to the trails in this demanding endurance sport, showcasing their strength, determination, and resilience.

Red Deer - February 6-7, 2027

Curling

The curling competition at the 2027 SOA Winter Games will take place in Red Deer. Athletes from across the province will take to the ice to compete in this exciting and strategic sport.

Calgary - February 26-28, 2027

Figure Skating

Special Olympics figure skating athletes will compete alongside athletes from across the province at the Combined Winter Invitational, hosted by Skate Canada: Alberta–NWT/Nunavut. This opportunity allows Special Olympics athletes to showcase their skills in a larger competition environment while celebrating the sport alongside the broader skating community.

Edmonton - January 30 - 31, 2027

Floorball

The floorball competition portion of the 2027 SOA Winter Games will be hosted in Edmonton. As Special Olympics Canada’s newest official sport, this marks the first time floorball will be competed in at the provincial level, making it an exciting milestone for athletes and fans alike.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing at the 2027 SOA Winter Games will be held in Calgary. Athletes from across the province will race across the snow in this fast-growing winter sport, demonstrating speed, endurance, and determination.
