Friendship, confidents, and a close sense of community are just a few of the things that Megan Goudreau enjoys about being an athlete with Special Olympics in Alberta. Megan’s journey with Special Olympics started when she was only twelve years old, and she has been training and competing with Special Olympics for eighteen years. She has been involved in many different sports programs over the years and is currently participating in snowshoeing, soccer, and basketball. Soccer is Megan’s favorite sport which can be easily attributed to the wonderful friends and coaches she has met through the soccer program.

When asked what her favorite part of being in Special Olympics is, Megan shared that above all, she loves meeting fellow athletes and creating new friendships. Being a part of an inclusive environment has given Megan the confidence and encouragement needed to try new things and develop new skills, both on and off the field. Another motivator for Megan is her soccer coach, Amanda. Coach Amanda is an inspiration for Megan and makes her want to work hard at improving her athletic skills. She develops her skills both in practice with coach Amanda, and at home with her mom.
Inclusion is at the heart of Special Olympics Alberta, and for Megan, inclusion means supporting others and ensuring everyone feels welcome and valued. If Megan could share one message to those considering joining Special Olympics Alberta, it would be that this community is a wonderful place to be, and you will meet amazing people that help you develop new skills.
