Special Olympics Red Deer hosted their 16th annual Celebrity Breakfast this Tuesday, June 18th. This cherished fundraising event brought together a vibrant community of athletes, advocates, and supporters to raise funds for the organization.
This year, the breakfast welcomed Dallas Soonias, former Team Canada volleyball star, renowned not only for his athletic accomplishments but also for his advocacy for First Nations youth. Soonias, is a proud graduate of Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer, and did an excellent job speaking at this event in his hometown. He delivered an impassioned presentation reflecting on the profound impact of sports. His speech addressed the transformative power of donations to Special Olympics, emphasizing how each contribution fosters unparalleled opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The event also featured Elisabeth Baril, a Special Olympics athlete whose heartfelt account captivated attendees. Baril shared her personal journey, detailing the challenges she has overcome and crediting sports for revolutionizing her life. Through Special Olympics, Baril has found a supportive community where she can excel in inclusive athletic pursuits—a testament to the organization's commitment to empowerment and inclusivity.
Every donation received by Special Olympics Alberta plays a pivotal role in enriching sport programs and nurturing the talents of athletes with intellectual disabilities.
