Special Olympics Alberta is hosting an Indigenous Youth Sport and Rec Day on October 4th for Indigenous families and youth with intellectual disability. The aim of this event is to introduce athletes and their families to sports and help frame the future of accessible programming in Maskwacis.
Lunch and snacks will be provided for all in attendance! Come try a variety of sports including traditional hand games, floor hockey, powwow practice and more!
Open to youth with an intellectual disability, their families, friends, and supports - you do not have to be an SO athlete. Team up for an early fall day of fun and try a new sport! Registration is on a first come first serve basis. There will be a waitlist for if we hit our threshold.
In tandem with this event, the University of Alberta is conducting a research study on the positive impact of sports on athletes and families with intellectual disability. Participation in this study is optional.
