Health Needs Assessment

Announcements

Special Olympics Alberta is asking athletes and their families to fill out a health survey. We want to hear from you about what parts of your health are most important to you!

Special Olympics Alberta would greatly appreciate your input on health needs for our athletes and their families. Help us by filling out this assessment: Health Needs Assessment

For Special Olympics athletes, health is important because it impacts how well they can train and compete in sports. Health means different things to different people, but here’s what it can include:

1. Physical Health: This means helping athletes stay active, eat well, and take care of their bodies.
2. Mental Health: This is about feeling good in your mind, being happy, and finding ways to deal with problems or stress.

3. Access to Healthcare: This means getting the help they need from doctors and other health professionals.

What SOA Currently Offers:

· Virtual PEAK Program: This is an online program where athletes can set fitness goals, join fun online workouts, attend sessions on healthy habits and nutrition, and lastly mental health awareness sessions.

· Healthy Athletes Screenings: provides free health screenings, education, and resources to athletes with intellectual disabilities. Currently, Alberta has two screenings:
o FUNFitness (Physiotherapy): Helps athletes improve their movement and fitness.
o Strong Minds (Mental Health): Helps athletes learn how to stay mentally strong and deal with stress.
