The Special Olympics Alberta Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for a youth leadership position, and members for our newly established Youth Leadership Advisory Council.  Positions are available for terms beginning October 2010.

Special Olympics recently participated in a World Congress in Morocco.  There was a very clear call to action to engage more youth and more siblings in the Special Olympics movement.

Youth representing 120 countries have told us this needs to happen around the globe:

  • Youth leadership for athletes
  • More opportunities for young volunteers at Games
  • Recruit more youth volunteers with a focus on siblings
  • Utilize integrated sports as an opportunity for more youth leader involvement
  • Include youth leaders on our Board of Directors

…and more

We are prepared to adjust our business to make it more youth friendly, to offer youth leadership/training opportunities, and to engage whole families in our program, sport and community planning.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Board or Advisory Committee you will help shape Special Olympics now and far into the future.  You will work with the Board to plan, evaluate and provide advice for change.  You will lead discussion groups, facilitate surveys, gather stakeholder input, and lead the way in communicating effectively with the next generation of Special Olympics leaders.

Board and committee members have a strong sense of community, a proven track record of community involvement, and a keen interest in making a difference for people with an intellectual disability – if this sounds like you then consider being a part of our team!

Further information can be obtained by contacting Kirk De Fazio, President & CEO at kdefazio@specialolympics.ab.ca or by phone at 780-415-0719.
