Sport Development - Edmonton
Special Olympics is
accepting applications for a full-time permanent position in Sport Development
in the Edmonton
office. Special Olympics is a charitable sport organization which provides
sport training and competitive opportunities to individuals with intellectual
disabilities. Currently, the Edmonton
area offers 35 sport programs with more than 500 athletes participating throughout
the year.
This position will
be responsible for the following areas:
- Coordinating
and managing all sport programs and development of new programs including
recruitment of athletes and volunteers
- Management of tournaments in Edmonton
and those attended in Alberta
- Maintaining a leadership role in working with coaches and
volunteers
- Liaise with generic sport clubs and other agencies for
integration opportunities
- Development of new initiatives, and execution of plans
- Monitoring
and reporting related to program status, statistics and new developments.
The successful
candidate will possess the following:
- Post-secondary education in sport and recreation or related
field is an asset.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the
ability to work both individually and with a team
- Experience working in a sport development
- An understanding of a multi-sport environment, competitions,
and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
- Knowledge of individuals with a disability and sport
implications
- Proficiency with office computer equipment and software
