Board of Directors and Board Subcommittees

The Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for the Board of Directors, and board sub-committees.  Positions are available for terms beginning October 2011.

Special Olympics Alberta is a charitable sport association which provides training and competitive opportunities to 3,000 athletes with an intellectual disability.  We are part of a global movement committed to enriching the lives of people with an intellectual disability through sport.

The Board of Directors operates in a governance capacity, setting direction and oversight for Special Olympics Alberta.  Board Committee members work in consultation with the Board of Directors and most often act in an advisory capacity to the Board.  Board and committee members can expect to contribute an average of five hours per month and participate in three to six meetings per year, depending on position – meetings are often held by teleconference.  Board and committee members are reimbursed for reasonable expenses.

Connection to Special Olympics, our athletes, and/or an expertise in sports, governance or fund raising is an asset.
